California’s Arts in Corrections (AIC) program is a prison arts model recognized across the globe for its approach to strengthening rehabilitation through arts and culture. At this roundtable, learn more about the program and how to get funds for prison arts programming in California. We will also discuss how the program is breaking down the barriers of prison arts programming through community-centered and practice-centered approaches. Attendees will help brainstorm a new program name for California’s Arts in Corrections program that reflects our state’s forward-thinking momentum and growth potential for the field of prison arts in California.
Mariana Moscoso
Mariana Moscoso (pronouns: they/them/theirs) identifies as a tricultural genderqueer artivist involved in grassroots organizing in the areas of decolonization and transformative justice. They are dedicated to an intersectional, racial equity framework with an emergent strategy approach in all aspects of their life. In their professional life, as the Interim Arts in Corrections (AIC) Program Manager at the California Arts Council, their work is deeply informed by this framework and approach. Mariana is fascinated by the impact of language and has spent countless hours writing poetry and learning to speak several languages, including Tzutujil (Mayan), Italian, and German. They hold a master’s degree in Art History from the University of California, Davis with an emphasis on Gender Studies. In their free time, they enjoy daydreaming, joking around and making art with their daughter, and reading philosophical texts.

Raised in Richmond California, At the age of 17 he ran away from a disfunctional/abusive home,Joined an Asian gang and ultimately participated in a murder/robbery&attempted murder of a park ranger. He was convicted of murder in the first degree and served a sentenceOf 25 years to life. In that time he Dedicated his mind& his life to pinpointing the causitive factors which motivated him to go Left when he was supposed to go right. Now, Lead by a desire to make amends,his commitment to the Lord & a CHOICE to be the change he'd like to see in this world, he has accepted the charge to help CHANGE SOCIAL CONSCIOUSNESS.
