Fifteen minutes is the total running time (TRT) of a call through Securus Technologies inmate telephone system. Securus Technologies (Aventiv) is the second-largest private equity prison communications firm in the United States. Prison telecom is part of a $2.9 billion industry extracting profits from the loved ones of incarcerated individuals. Pennsylvania incarcerates the second-highest amount of prisoners of any state. The majority are elders serving mandatory life sentences. Pennsylvania is one of six states that denies parole to lifers. (LWOP) Life without the possibility of parole means a significant number of individuals are living out their last breaths behind bars.

David Dawud Lee is a co-founding member of CADBI, The Coalition to Abolish Death by Incarceration (DBI) sentences. Lee is currently serving 33 years of a DBI sentence in SCI Coal Township, PA. Lee has been an Advisory Board Member of (HRC) Human Rights Coalition for almost 20 years. Georgian Badal is an anti-disciplinary artist working across media. Examining juridical and aesthetic forms of power on formal, material, and conceptual levels, Badal’s work often deals with communication, contract, and care. Badal has presented at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, The Queens Museum of Art in New York and is an Affiliate Artist at New York University’s Center for Disability Studies.
